Nate & Amy Tag Answers

When was the first time you went to Cannon Beach with the family?
N-1988, I was 9 years old. I don't remember much but I do remember it rained the whole time, but it was still fun.
A-2002, I was pregnant with Connor. We stayed at the A frame house at the very north end of the beach.
C-I was 8 months old.

Why do you look forward to Cannon Beach every year?
N-It is a great time to leave everything behind and just relax. Recently it has been more about getting to be with everyone again.
A-Eating Corla's cooking all week and lots of laughing all together. Waking up in the morning knowing Nate doesn't have to leave for work.
C-I love to play in the sand and water then going inside and getting in the bath. I like to stay at the beach house. All the guys that I love are there.

What is your favorite Cannon Beach memory?
N-There are so many. The one that came to my mind when Amy said that she stayed in the A frame house was when I said that I was going for a run (I was still playing football) and Dad (still running daily) asked if he could come along. Sure I said. Remember that the A frame house was located at the very north end of the beach. We started out at a brisk pace. No problem I thought. Until we reached the rock and Dad did not even pause, he just kept running. When we reached the very south end of the beach I expected a little rest but we just turned around and seemed to pick up the pace. I think I blacked out at this point. I just remember being sore the rest of the week. This was a lot of fun to run with Dad.
A-When we went kayaking on the river/inlet with John, Jada, Pat, Corla, Nate, Connor(2) and I. It was a cozy misty day with the smell of camp fires. We sang as we rowed (mostly me and Corla singing). Jada was pregnant and had to pull over to go to the bathroom a few times and we kept teasing her- Connor was so good to just sit with us in the boat too.
C-When Grandpa was blowing bubbles by the beach fire and uncle Joe was eating them.

What is your funniest memory at Cannon Beach?
N-Every year when Suzanne would run straight from the car to the water with all her clothes on.
A-The lewd crude game of scattegories. I laughed so hard I cried.
C-The bubble eating.

Which house that we stayed in was your favorite?
N-I don't really remember. I just love being at Cannon Beach even when we would stay in the hotel.
A-I liked the A frame house. It was small but cozy and had a claw foot bath tub upstairs.
C-I liked Grandma's beach house (Thayer House).

What is your favorite game we play?
N-Scattegories. As long as no one tries to cheat.
A-Pit
C-Hide and Go Seek

What is your favorite outside and inside activity we do?
N-I am not very patient with the puzzels but it is a good memory of Dad. I like to go crabing, bumper cars, and beach baseball. Playing basketball and tennis with everyone was fun last year too.
A- Bocce Ball. Quilting and Scrapbooking.
C-Anything in the sand/water, ie. sand castles and playing construction with Grandpa. Also, rolling down the hill.

What is your favorite food we eat?
N-Pizza Roll ups.
A-John's steaks, for some reason the pasta and salad night is always sooo delicious at the beach. Kettle corn with Corla, and rootbeer, or course!
C- Rootbeer & ice- cream

What is your favorite store in town?
N- The shopping doesn't do much for me, but I like the surf shop and doughnut shop
A-The quilt store, the bakery (doughnuts), & the toy store
C- The toy & candy stores

What one thing do you just have to do this year?
N- Just be there!
A- Hold my new buddy Boyce, and watch a sunset with Nate- also eat squeaky cheese!
C- go to the toy store

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
N-Chocolate Chip cookie dough
A- German chocolate cake flavor
C- mint, like grandma

Which do you like better the sunrises or sunsets?
N- Sunsets, but mornings are fun to go get doughnuts with Amy & my boys
A- I love the mornings at the beach, the smell, the mist, the peacefulness, but you don't actually see the sunrise through the fog...
C- the early mornings

Joe's New Q: What is something that is funny now looking back at it, may have almost ruined the trip?
N-Most recently Joe losing Mal's ring in the sand. We looked for hours and when Dad came back with the metal detector it was found in minutes. A few years ago when we were still in the blue VW van we had some serious car problems. We had to push several times. We spent a lot of the trip that year in the front yard of the mechanics house/trailer/shop. Every year we drive by I can't help but to laugh.
A- My first year there Suzanne picked Nate and I up from the airport with Don, after her getting no sleep the night before- we had to make sure he made it to the bus station and not to the beach with us- Nate finally had to take the wheel so I would not fight with Suzanne about her driving. Then we had to stop for her to get pizza on the way, among other issues she was having- I was so anxious to get there, and still learning to be patient with her but I held my tongue, and managed to get along with her that week. She put on quite a firework show that year with her $200 stash of fireworks that she brought. It really makes me laugh and miss her now!
C- being grounded from the toy store after throwing a tantrum from having to leave it.
