From Dad & Mom/Pat & Corla
When was the first time you went to Cannon Beach with the family?
- It was August 14th 1988. Joe was 20 months old. I found the exact entry in my journal!
- Same for me (except for the journal part :).
- I get to forget about work for a week and concentrate on family.
- I like to breathe the fresh ocean air, take in the beautiful scenery and be in the same place at the same time with ALL the people who matter to me the most in the whole world, All at the same time!
What is your favorite Cannon Beach memory?
- It was the very first night that we rolled into town. It was a Sunday night. We were all in the old blue VW bus. It was late in the evening, about 8 or 9 and there was a crowd of people in town. I don't know what we were thinking with all you kids, going into Cannon Beach with no reservation! Ha! Ha! We pulled up to a hotel and the guy was out just changing the sign from "No Vacancy" to "Vacancy." I ran in and they had had a cancellation of one room, so we took it and all of us crammed into the one room. Kids were everywhere! It rained buckets the time we were there--one night. We sat in the hot tub in the rain, walked to town in the rain and ate ice cream in the rain. We loved it! That was the start of it!
- Boy, this is tough! So many, many happy, fun and tender memories. I think maybe just watching you kids through the years. Watching you play and run and dig and swim and laugh and grow on the beach together, year after year.
What is your funniest memory at Cannon Beach?
- It would have to be "Pyro-Joe." We stayed at that very old, decrepit house at the end of the beach in Tolovana. It was the 4th of July week. Joe got into the old shed and found a reflective safety vest that said something like, "Caution Explosives!" on it. He must have been around 10 or 11 years old. He wore it proudly as he set off our exciting Fireworks show (with olders brothers helping, of course). It was great, but wild! We can't say where some of the group bought the fireworks!
- It must have been the first year we went crabbing and decided to bring our crabs 'home' to cook them. We thought: "Sure, we can do this!! How hard could it be?" Well, we made the most incredible mess and stunk up the whole house! It was so nasty, we couldn't even eat the crab we caught! It took us the rest of the whole week to clean the stove and air the place out! Never again!
Which house that we stayed in was your favorite?
- Good question. There have been a few. I liked the Breland home. The one across from the rock. We stayed there the most years in a row.
- For me, I would have to say the Thayer House, close to town. It had a nice fenced yard. We had it for a couple of years. I think we had our warmest weather there!
What is your favorite game we play?
- Uno
- Scrabble
What is your favorite outside and inside activity we do?

- Outside=beachcombing/Inside=cooking ( I've loved every fun kitchen!)
What is your favorite food we eat?
- "Noodles About that Long" ( I NEVER get it at home!)
- Pizza Roll-ups and Strawberries. YUM!
What is your favorite store in town?

- Put my feet in the warm sand!
